With over 60 participants, half of whom were clinic representatives from top hospitals and healthcare institutions, and the other half from 18 innovative startups spanning Germany, France, Latvia, Israel, and beyond, the event was a testament to the growing synergy between startups and healthcare providers. The primary objective was to showcase validated innovation ideas that could enhance clinical routines while offering startups valuable access to clinic decision-makers and networks.
CIM² – Clinical Innovation Meeting 2024
Bridging the Gap Between Startups and Clinics
The Clinical Innovation Meeting (CIM²), held on November 15, 2024, was a landmark event that highlighted the transformative potential of medical technology startups and their collaborations with clinics. Hosted by Life Science Accelerator Baden-Württemberg and CUBEX ONE & CUBEX 41 (NEXT MANNHEIM), the event provided a unique platform for fostering connections between the healthcare sector and emerging innovations.
Innovative Solutions at CIM² 2024
The startups presented a wide array of groundbreaking solutions, including AI-powered tools for surgical training, 5G-enabled surgical device networks, contactless patient monitoring, and AI-assisted voice protocols for anesthesia management. A standout moment was the presentation by QUMEAs, a Swiss startup that began its entry into the German market following successful matchmaking at the previous WE CARE - Startup Innovation for Care event. Their patient monitoring solution, after being trialed at the INSPIRE Living Lab, is now actively used in multiple clinics across the region.
The event also featured a panel discussion between Anna Windisch of QUMEAs and Dr. Hannah Krause, where they shared insights into the dos and don’ts of collaboration between startups and clinics. Their discussion emphasized the importance of trust, transparency, and a patient-centric approach in developing clinical solutions.
Fostering Collaboration for the Future
CIM² 2024 aimed not only to present innovations but also to create long-lasting collaborations. The networking sessions, especially after the startup pitches, were instrumental in bringing together clinicians and innovators to discuss how these technologies could be integrated into everyday clinical practices. It’s events like these that can shape the future of healthcare by ensuring that the latest technological advances meet the needs of both healthcare providers and patients.
Showcasing the Startups
The startups at CIM 2024 truly showcased the cutting-edge of medical technology. Here they are:
Each of these companies demonstrated how they are leveraging technology to solve real-world challenges in healthcare, from surgical tools to advanced diagnostics and patient monitoring.
Networking Partners and Attending Clinics
The event was made possible through the support of INSPIRE Living Lab, Mannheim Medical Technology Cluster, arise Accelerator, BadenCampus, University of Basel, and Quest for Health. Hospitals in attendance included Universitätsmedizin Mannheim, BG Klinik Ludwigshafen, and Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, among others.
