Good things come to those who wait - Australian industrial design student at MedTech center CUBEX part 1/2

In the summer of 2018, Fraunhofer and Previpharma traveled together to Australia and presented their approach of a service integrator concept in the blood plasma industry to professors, students and a large blood plasma fractionator. With this, an idea started to grow.

The presentation on site in Australia was followed by a visit to Mannheim by various Australian partners - including a professor from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), which is a leading research university specializing in business administration, design and social sciences, natural sciences, engineering and technology in the Asia-Pacific region.
The idea of a cooperation with a regular exchange of students with the Pop Academy has been in the works for three years. Now something has come of it.

Previpharma & Fraunhofer (Article from 2018)

Bria Versace has been supporting us at CUBEX since the beginning of February. She is an industrial design student and completed her Honors degree at RMIT in Australia. Now, Bria is studying Product and Service Design in the Master's program at Politecnico Di Milano, Italy and brings this expertise to Cubex and the life science environment.

I am absolutely stoked to be here in Mannheim - a place where innovation is inescapable, much like the smell of chocolate. It is a pleasure to be working amongst such lovely people and in an ecosystem that is overwhelmed with resources.

To start, she will do her 2-month internship at CUBEX starting in February and will then attach an additional 6 months to complete research for master's thesis within Mannheim’s start-up ecosystem.

How can Service design methodology can facilitate more holistic innovation within startup hubs? And what is the role of creative communities in realizing this intent?  This is the topic Bria will address when she gets to know the internal processes and organization of medtech startups here in the region. We are excited to see the result of her work and look forward to welcoming her as part of the team.

We'll report on what Bria has implemented during her time here at CUBEX in part 2 in a few months!
